Silversun Pickups will herald their much-anticipated fourth studio album with an array of high profile activity. BETTER NATURE will be released September 25th via the band’s own New Machine Recordings.

BETTER NATURE is preceded by the incandescent new single, “Nightlight,” debuting Thursday August 6th. “Nightlight” also arrives accompanied by a hallucinatory music film, written and directed by legendary filmmaker Mark Pellington (Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam). The extended video – produced by Braxton Pope (Passion Pit, MGMT) and featuring Meg Steedle (Boardwalk Empire, The Mysteries of Laura) – builds upon the track’s resonant emotional and sonic core to explore the darker recesses of one young woman’s subconscious, a fever dream of guilt, desire, and identity. “Nightlight” is now available to watch at silversunpickups.com and YouTube.

As if all that weren’t enough, August 7th will see the debut broadcast of Silversun Pickups’ full-length appearance on DIRECTV’s Guitar Center Sessions. The all-new episode sees host Nic Harcourt sitting down with the band to discuss their formation, creative process, and what’s next for the band’s future. Silversun Pickups’ first new album in more than three years, BETTER NATURE sees the Silverlake, CA-based band partnering once again with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Two Door Cinema Club, Crystal Castles), with whom they so successfully collaborated on 2012’s visionary NECK OF THE WOODS. Songs like “Friendly Fires” and “Cradle (Better Nature)” were created and crafted in Lee’s Topanga studio, the band building out organically from Silversun Pickups singer/guitarist Aubert’s spare songwriting demos. The result is fluid and freewheeling, “oozy,” in Aubert’s words, with heavily cranked guitars, propulsive rhythms, and seemingly infinite textures.

GRAMMY® Award-winning mix engineer Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Royal Blood) brings maximum sonic power to the proceedings, but at the album’s beating heart is Silversun Pickups’ remarkably intuitive interplay, as ever providing panoramic musical counterpoint to Aubert’s incisive, increasingly self-exploratory lyricism. Richer, warmer, and more evocative than anything in their prior canon, BETTER NATURE is Silversun Pickups’ most human music thus far.

“This album is like its own quantum universe,” Aubert says. “It’s kind of unstable.”

Silversun Pickups will celebrate BETTER NATURE with an epic North American tour to be unveiled soon. In the meantime, the band will make a number of special showcase appearances, beginning with a headline performance at FM 94.9’s Independence Jam, set for September 12th at Oceanside, CA’s Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre. I wish that I could say that I was in a “better place” when I found out the news. It would make for a far more polished and respectable story.
But I think back to that night: praying on the floor at 2am as Tricia went to the bathroom to take the pregnancy test I’d just purchased from Walgreens.
I was scared. Scared to start working on new music. Scared of trying again and failing. Scared of the process of staring at myself through a page and seeing someone that I wasn’t proud of.
Someone that I didn’t like. Someone that wasn’t ready to be a dad.

I’ve always had some make-believe image in my head of who I would be as a father.
I held on to clear expectations of where I wanted be in my career, my age, my level of self-care, and my maturity.
I basically assumed that I’d have it all together. But in actuality the hypothetical “dad” version of me looked completely different than the man whose heart was beating out of his chest on the carpet, praying to a god or spirit I hadn’t talked to in months.
When Tricia walked out of the bathroom, I knew. And I knew I had to change.

5 months later we were recording in a remote cabin away from the density that is Seattle.
I was finally having fun in the studio for the first time in years. Songs were getting made, finally.
I was going back to the city once a week to attend a birthing class with Tricia.
When I got back to the cabin the next day, Ryan had made a new beat that would eventually become the song you’re listening to.
Half of it is advice about growing up. The other half is trying to figure out how to grow up myself.

When you try to escape yourself, life has an interesting way of creating situations that force you to come back.
To look at who you are. This is why “Growing up” felt like the right song to re-emerge with. It’s where I’ve been the last year, through all the ups and downs.
We didn’t want to do a big campaign or anything over the top with this. We just wanted to put out good music, directly to the people that have been here since the beginning.

It’s a big week for Gavin James – He kicked off a U.S. Tour in support of Sam Smith at the weekend and returns to Ireland this Friday where he supports his good friend, Ed Sheeran at the first of the sold-out Croke Park shows.

British singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson has been unveiled as the first ever signing to multi-platinum, international superstar Ed Sheeran’s own label Gingerbread Man Records. The debut major label release of his self-titled album, alongside that of his international smash Wasn’t Expecting That will come in October 2015, alongside a full UK tour including a date at London’s Scala on 4th November. Enigmatic and soulful, Jamie first drew Ed’s attention with an early version of his international juggernaut hit Wasn’t Expecting That, which drew the ginger-haired superstar to tears.

Ed says of the signing:
“I first became aware of Jamie Lawson a few years ago, after hearing his track “Wasn’t Expecting That”. I very rarely get emotional over a track, but that song stopped me dead. He manages to put across such raw emotion within his work, and I knew immediately that I wanted to work with this guy in some way. Having decided to start my own label ‘Gingerbread Man Records’ with my label Atlantic Records, the first artist I had to sign was Jamie. Starting Gingerbread Man Records means I can put music I love out there on a huge platform, and Jamie seemed like the perfect choice for my first release”

Jamie originally hails from Plymouth, and his journey can only be explained as an epic one. It took time for him to find his voice, even longer for him to hone his songs in the sparse, poetic language he has made very much his own. Though he has maintained a core, loyal following who have supported him throughout, only now is that starting to blossom into something far bigger. A chance meeting with a young singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran a few years ago, just as he himself had signed to Atlantic, seemed to affect very little at the time. Jamie has this to say about the meeting: ‘He’d been doing the same circuit and we had mutual friends, so although we hadn’t met before, we’d heard of each other. His songs were great, and he was a nice guy. We exchanged numbers, but just after that he took off and became massively famous, and I just watched, thinking, “There’s another one gone!”’

A year or so down the line, Ed noticed Jamie’s poster in an Irish pub and remembered their earlier meeting – playing the prestigious Ruby Sessions in Dublin the following week, he asked the promoter to invite Jamie to play too. Subsequently, Jamie has jumped from a few hundred capacity venues to the 10,000 capacity venue in Dublin with Ed, to touring the world with him through the beginning of 2015. Recent months have seen Jamie playing to over 175,000 people in Australia (where Wasn’t Expecting That hit #2 and has subsequently hit double Platinum) and New Zealand. In the past few weeks he has also supported Ed on his mammoth stadium tour and will be playing two nights with him at Dublin’s Croke Park.

His debut release on Gingerbread Man Records was produced by Ed’s long-time collaborator Will Hicks (Lily Allen, Plan B, Bastille) and mixed by Ruadhri Cushnan (Mumford & Sons ‘Babel’, Ed Sheeran ‘+’ & ‘X’).
