“The New York artist’s latest is all sinuous. Serene, lush pop” – The Observer
“Vagabon’s best yet – Upbeat and unforgettable” – N.M.E.
Vagabon (aka Lætitia Tamko) announces her self-titled sophomore album, due digitally and on CD and cassette October 18, 2019 via Nonesuch Records. (A vinyl LP version will be available later this fall, exact date TBD.) The follow up to her breakout debut, Infinite Worlds, Vagabon is an artistic leap for Tamko, who wrote and produced the entire album. Guitar-driven melodies are largely absent, replaced by hybridized analog and digital arrangements. Pre-orders for Vagabon are available now and they include a download of the album track “Flood.” Additionally, Nonesuch Store pre-orders include an exclusive print autographed by Tamko.
Of “Flood,” on which she performs all of the instruments, Tamko says “‘Flood’ is a track I originally produced and arranged for a well-known pop-duo to have on their album. Knowing I was writing this song for musicians I admire allowed me this relief from my writer’s block. I used this assignment as a chance to flex my production muscles and write something I wouldn’t have written as a ‘Vagabon’ song a couple years ago. The result felt like a triumph for me in my progression as an artist and I just couldn’t stand to part with the song by the time I was finished.”
Additionally, Vagabon has announced a fall tour that includes headlining shows in New York, Los Angeles, London, Brussels, Berlin and Paris and a run supporting Angel Olsen.
ABOUT VAGABON by Gabriela Tully Claymore
“Break the rules you think you are bound by.” That’s the recurring sentiment Lætitia Tamko carried with her through the writing and recording of her second album under the Vagabon moniker. Her first, 2017’s Infinite Worlds, was an indie breakthrough that put her on the map, prompting Tamko to tour around the world and quit her job in electrical/computer engineering to pursue a career in music full-time. Tamko’s self-titled Nonesuch Records debut finds her in a state of creative expansion, leaning fully into some of the experimental instincts she flirted with on the previous album. This time around, she’s throwing genre to the wind. Vagabon is a vibrant culmination of influences, emotional landscapes, and moods; a colorful and masterful statement by an artist and producer stepping into her own.
“I was in a pretty tortured headspace when I returned home from touring Infinite Worlds. That album contained some of the first songs I’d ever written, and more people than I could have ever imagined heard it,” Tamko says. ”I was proud to become a full-time musician and recognized how rare of a thing that is, but was also debilitated by the very same fact. Fear overtook me and I couldn’t write. I felt stagnant and unsure of what to do next.”
That anxiety eventually thawed and gave way to a newfound sense of freedom as Tamko began to focus less on industry pressures and more on honing her craft as a songwriter and producer. ”With this album, I wanted to impress myself,” Tamko says. ”I wanted to be curious and I wanted to make big leaps as a producer. All I had access to on the road was my computer and Logic, so naturally I started writing songs electronically with what was at hand.”
Vagabon was written and produced entirely by Tamko. Guitar-driven melodies are largely absent, and in their place we are treated to a collection of songs buoyed by hybridized analog and digital arrangements. While Infinite Worlds situated the last Vagabon project in the realm of “indie rock,” Vagabon is not easily defined. Grounded by Tamko’s expressive voice and knack for unique melodies, the album flits between genres, never lingering too long on one particular sensibility.
Lead single “Flood” exemplifies this growth; the production ebbs like a gentle tide before a cavernous drumbeat kicks in and the tone shifts completely. “I know, even if I run from it I’m still in it,” Tamko sings over and over again, her capacious voice conveying a sense of resignation in the face of an external force beyond her control. The chorus is a hypnotic bit of pop alchemy that lingers long after the runtime.
“The drums and vocal forward approach I took on the new album is drawn from my love for rap and hip-hop production as well as R&B and folk storytelling. That’s the music that got me excited about writing again,” Tamko says. In addition to those influences, the West African guitars and rhythms that sound tracked much of her childhood seep into moments throughout this album, in no place more obvious than on “In A Bind.” The song opens with a fingerpicked melody as Tamko sings to someone she’s been orbiting for a while but can’t quite reach. “I know that I was gone a lot last year/ But I hoped you’d still be here,” she sings. After that, words no longer serve, and lyrics are replaced by robust, choral vocals singing the refrain: “Uh-huh, yes, uh-huh.”
“I drew some inspiration from the Malian musician Ali Farka Touré while writing that song. There is a part on his song ’Savane’ where he and his band are feeling the music so much that he just says, ’Yes,’ in the middle of the track,” Tamko explains. ”It’s almost as if the music is coming from a higher power. That’s a staple in so much of the African music I love, and when I started writing ’In a Bind’ I was overcome in a similar way.” Tamko didn’t set out with one particular lyrical theme in mind when she started writing Vagabon, and as a result, this album offers up a spectrum of moods to marinate in. Songs like the album’s opener “Full Moon In Gemini,” the thumping bedroom dance track “Water Me Down,” and the collage piece “Please Don’t Leave The Table” illustrate blinding moments of personal insight that speak to universal themes. Other lyrics came to Tamko with clear intention. “Every Woman” is a thesis statement, though it arrives near the very end of the album.
“That song poured out of me and showed itself as an anthem for myself and for all of the people who are marginalized by our society. ‘Women’ in this case isn’t gendered, it’s a placeholder for those who are not always welcome and not always protected. This song exists for all of us to see each other and find each other,” Tamko says. “The song is also a thank-you letter to the women who raised me, the women who look like me, the women who work in all of the genres of music that guided this album, ‘the women who run with the wolves.’”
On “Wits About You,” Tamko opens up more space for those who have found themselves positioned as The Other when she sings: ”I was invited to the party/ They won’t let my people in/ Well then never mind, never mind, never mind.” Later, the stunning slow burn ”Home Soon” finds Tamko meditating on what it feels like to truly belong to a place, a community. She’s joined by a consortium of friends, who sing along with her over a trembling string arrangement. ”At dawn, I’ll be home soon,” they affirm in unison.
“Home has always been a major theme in my music, and when I say I make music for outcasts, I am also talking about those who feel far from home or uncomfortable where they’re at,” Tamko says. ”To me, home isn’t a physical space so much as it is a mental state. I’m writing about wanting to feel safe and at home in my body and in my mind and in the community I move in. I want Vagabon to be a project that people searching for the same thing can connect with.”

WATCH HER ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE OF NEW SINGLE ‘GHOST TRAIN’
Emerging artist Áinetoday releases her new EP ‘Dislocated’ via Parlophone -stream/share the EP.
‘Ghost Train’ follows recent single ‘Dislocated’- the title track from the project which has ignited support on streaming platforms following a feature on this year’s Love Island.
Following‘Dislocated’on the 5-track EP is ‘Stepford Wife’,a lyrically cutting paean to domesticity that references the 1972 satirical novel by Ira Levin. Rounding out the EP is a stripped back cover of Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s country-pop-disco fusion ‘Nothing Break Likes A Heart’ and ‘Dislocated’ (Acoustic) - both of which highlight Áine’s stunning live vocals.
Inspired by the rise of pop superstars Lady Gaga and MARINA (and the Diamonds), Áine’s small-town upbringing – she hails from County Cavan – meant her dreams of ascending to such heights felt unattainable, until Glastonbury 2016.
Plucked from a pub stage to appear on primetime BBC festival coverage, she mesmerised viewers with her performance.
Like her musical heroes,Áine’s releases are frank and searingly honest. She isn’t afraid to commit her sharpobservations of people to song, and it’s a formula that’s clearly resonating with her growing fanbase; Áine’s releases have drawn attention from tastemakersHunger, CLASH, Noctis, The Line of Best Fit and more.
The announcement of the Dislocated follows Áine’s Blue Valentine EP, released earlier in 2019. The 5-track project showcased her ambitious talent, and marked a statement of intent from the rising artist.
Rubberband Available Today On CD, LP, And Digitally From Rhino
Album Recorded After Signing With Warner Bros. Has Now Been Completed By The Original Producers Randy Hall And Zane Giles, And Davis’ Nephew Vince Wilburn Jr.,With Guest Vocalists Including Lalah Hathaway And Ledisi
Miles Davis long-lost album Rubberband is available everywhere today after being shelved for over 30 years. To celebrate the release, Rhino has produced a mini-documentary that recounts the long journey the album has taken from recording to release with commentary from original producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles, Davis’ nephew and drummer/producer Vince Wilburn Jr, guest vocalists Lalah Hathaway and Ledisi, and more.
Davis shocked the music world in 1985 when he left Columbia Records after 30 years to join Warner Bros. Records. In October of that year, he began recording the album Rubberband in Los Angeles at Ameraycan Studios with producers Hall and Giles. The musical direction Davis was taking during the sessions marked a radical departure, with the inclusion of funk and soul grooves; with plans to feature guest vocalists Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan. Eventually, the album was shelved and Davis went on to record Tutu, leaving the Rubberband songs unheard and untouched for decades.
The 11-song Rubberband album is available today on CD, digitally, and as a 180-gram 2-LP set. It was finished by Hall and Giles, with Wilburn, Jr., who played drums on the original sessions for the album in 1985-86. The cover art for the album is a Davis original painting from the time period. A limited edition Rhino.com bundle of the vinyl version featuring a limited edition 7-inch single of the track “Paradise”, containing two non-album edits, is also available.
“Uncle Miles would be proud. Randy, Zane and I, and everyone involved, put our heart and soul into Rubberband” says Wilburn, Jr.

GRAMMY Award winner Sturgill Simpson has announced that “SOUND & FURY,” his much-anticipated new album and its accompanying Netflix anime film, will be released simultaneously on September 27th. Pre order here. https://WMI.lnk.to/soundandfury
Today, the acclaimed singer-songwriter has also unveiled the album’s lead single “Sing Along,” which was featured as Zane Lowe’s “World Record” on Apple Music’s Beats 1 and is available now at all DSPs. The official music video for “Sing Along” – streaming now at Simpson’s official YouTube channel – was directed by Japanese anime legend Jumpei Mizusaki, and offers a preview of the forthcoming film, which is set entirely to music from the full album with a different anime segment for each individual song.
Produced by Simpson, “SOUND & FURY,” the album, was recorded primarily at the McGuire Motor Inn in Waterford, Michigan, with his bandmates Bobby Emmett, Chuck Bartels, Miles Miller, who all serve as co-producers along with GRAMMY nominee John Hill (Cage The Elephant, Portugal. The Man, Bleachers). The album – which Simpson describes as “a sleazy, steamy rock n roll record” – is a marked departure from 2016’s acclaimed “A Sailor’s Guide To Earth,” which won “Best Country Album” and was nominated for “Album of the Year” at the 59th GRAMMY Awards. Merging American rock music and Japanese animation in a revolutionary new way, “SOUND & FURY,” the film, was produced and based on a story by Simpson entitled “Sound & Fury.”
Featuring some of the biggest names in the genre, the film was written and directed by Jumpei Mizusaki, founder of renowned animation studio Kamikaze Douga and director for the animated film, “Batman Ninja,” while Takashi Okazaki, creator of Japanese manga series “Afro Samurai,” served as the film’s character designer. Additional directors include Koji Morimoto of Phy (“AKIRA”) / Griot Groove, Michael Arias (“Tekkonkinkreet”), Masaru Matsumoto of Grayscale Arts (“Starship Troopers: Traitors of Mars”), Henry Thurlow and Arthell Isom of D’ART Shtajio (“Indigo Ignited, XOgenaSYS”). Shunsuke Ochiai is co-executive producer. Hiroaki Takeuchi is production executive (“The Animatrix”)
“SOUND & FURY” is Simpson’s fourth full length release following his self-produced, GRAMMY® Award-winning 2016 album, “A Sailor’s Guide To Earth” which garnered rave reviews from The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Pitchfork, Salon, Billboard, The Atlantic, Paste, SPIN, American Songwriter among many others. Simpson brought his electrifying live show to the small screen with nationally televised performances on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” “Conan,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and, most memorably, on “Saturday Night Live” and the 59th GRAMMY Awards telecast. Earlier this summer, Simpson unveiled a brand new track “The Dead Don’t Die,” the original theme song for the acclaimed film of the same name, written and directed by Jim Jarmusch.

Parlophone Records is proud to announce DAVID BOWIE CONVERSATION PIECE, a five CD box set and digital equivalent tracking David’s early development throughout 1968 and 1969, via his home demos, BBC radio sessions, studio recordings with guitarist John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson and the experimental music and mime group, Feathers. The collection also celebrates the 50th anniversaries of the release of the ‘Space Oddity’ single and David’s second album, David Bowie (aka Space Oddity).
DAVID BOWIE CONVERSATION PIECE contains twelve previously unreleased tracks/demos from the period as well as a brand new mix of the Space Oddity (aka David Bowie) album by longtime Bowie producer/collaborator Tony Visconti.
The new mix of the album now features the title track of the boxset ‘Conversation Piece’ restored to the tracklisting in its initially intended position before it was originally dropped due to time constraints of vinyl.
Of the 2019 Space Oddity album mix Visconti says “It was so much fun to find hidden gems of musicianship with more time to mix the second time around, a guitar twiddle here, a trombone blast there, Marc Bolan’s voice in a group choir and more detail in general that we overlooked all those years ago when the label gave us a week at the most to mix this album. And in the details you will find 22 year old David Bowie, who would soon take the world by storm.”
The 120 page hardback book accompanying the box features exclusive memorabilia from the personal collection of David’s former manager, the late Ken Pitt, as well as from the David Bowie Archive®, and includes photos by Ray Stevenson, Vernon Dewhurst, David Bebbington, Ken Pitt, Alec Byrne, Tony Visconti and Jojanneke Claasen.
The sleeve notes have been written for the release by Bowie experts Mark Adams, Tris Penna and Kevin Cann along with contributions from David’s lifelong friend George Underwood, Tony Visconti, Vernon Dewhurst, Dana Gillespie and John ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson.
The 2019 mix of the Space Oddity album will also be released separately and individually on CD, standard digital, 96/24 digital and vinyl. The various vinyl configurations will be randomly distributed worldwide with a mixture of hand-numbered labels; numbers 1 to 1969 on silver vinyl numbers and 1970 to 2019 on gold vinyl, with the remainder being black vinyl.
