NOVEMBER 17, 2023 – UK/Irish Trio New Rules are ringing in the holiday season with a Christmas double single. Written solely by the band, their original track “Might Ruin Christmas” arrives as a welcome addition to the modern Christmas canon – a cheeky offering exploring what can happen when you have a little too much fun the night before the holiday. The group also shared a cover of the Christmas classic, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” giving the track a fresh take with stacked harmonies, jaunty guitars, and an explosive chorus. Both songs are available now via Elektra.

On the idea behind “Might Ruin Christmas,” New Rules explains: “One of the best things about Christmas is getting to go home and catch up with all your friends, but with that comes the risk of getting too ‘merry’ the night before and wrecking Christmas Day for everyone – getting home too late, snacking on the turkey, knocking over the tree… all potential hazards we have to avoid around the holiday season. ‘Might Ruin Christmas’ is a song that we think captures that ‘night before’ feeling.”

Last month, New Rules played a packed headline show at Islington Assembly Hall and debuted their captivating new single and video “Ghost Town,” which was featured as Maia Beth’s Poppest Track on BBC Sounds. Written by New Rules and John Ryan [One Direction, Niall Horan, Sabrina Carpenter], “Ghost Town” laments the demise of a relationship and the feeling of abandonment that comes after. Directed by Devon Kuziw, the haunting visual toys with the song’s concept, flipping it on its head to present the group as ghosts in a world that has lost substance to them without their partner.

“Ghost Town” was preceded by the reflective summer track “Old Days” and the bouncy single “NOPE!,” which was named by British GQ one of “The Best Songs of 2023 (So Far).” Earlier this year, the band wrapped up a run of UK and Ireland headline tour dates, which earned a glowing review from The Sun, who raved, “…I hadn’t experienced this sort of hysteria since One Direction” and praised the band’s “electric” energy “…easing between flawless harmonies, guitar riffs, and banter with fans.” The trio also recorded a Radio 1 session at London’s prestigious Maida Vale Studios earlier this year. The group’s 2022 mixtape Go The Distance racked up praise from PEOPLE Magazine, who named the trio one of their Emerging Artists To Watch. Rolling Stone UK applauded the mixtape’s “pop-driven earworms,” while Sweety High attested New Rules are “going places.”

About New Rules:

For New Rules, three guitars and three voices converge upon one stadium-size sound. The London-based trio—Alec McGarry, Nathan Lambert, and Ryan Meaney—elevate pop to the rafters fueled by singer-songwriter soul, rock ‘n’ roll spirit, and a whole lot of personality. With Ryan from Dublin, Alec from Hertfordshire, and Nathan from Chelmsford, the boys initially met online, bonding over similar backgrounds playing music on street corners, uploading covers online, and penning original material. October 24, 2023 (Los Angeles, CA) – Global rock superstars Green Day – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – have returned with a fiery call to action on “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” the first single and opening track from the group’s 14^th studio album Saviors, releasing January 19^th, 2024 via Reprise/Warner Records – pre-order HERE. The band debuted “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and “Look Ma, No Brains!” off the new album live last weekend during their triumphant and electrifying Las Vegas, NV, takeover, consisting of a sold-out surprise show at the 800 capacity Fremont and back-to-back headlining performances at When We Were Young Festival.  Listen to “The American Dream is Killing Me” and watch the accompanying music video, directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley, HERE.   There will also be several exclusive vinyl versions of Saviors available including neon pink with neon green splatter, and black ice with hot pink splatter, with most in very limited supply and pressed only once.

“The American Dream Is Killing Me” was one of the last tracks written and recorded by Green Day for Saviors. “As soon we cut it, we said, `Okay, that’s going first,’” says Billie Joe Armstrong who describes the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people — in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”

Recorded in London and Los Angeles, Saviors is the latest powerful collaboration between Green Day and Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo, whose notable previous work with Green Day includes two of the band’s most iconic albums, 1994’s Dookie and 2004’s American Idiot. The record comes just ahead of Dookie’s 30th anniversary – celebrations have already begun with the release of a massive deluxe edition of the album and a surprise show in Las Vegas  where the band performed Dookie from front to back to a sold-out crowd of superfans.

Alongside the track the band has unveiled a film noir inspired black and white music video featuring Green Day in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.  The killer video was directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley and shot in Los Angeles.

Green Day will also be performing this Thursday, October 26 as part of Amazon Music Live’s concert series, and on November 19, the band is heading up north to headline the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show for the 110th Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
